Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY) issued the following statement regarding the majority's intention to advance a one-week stopgap Continuing Resolution:
"I am aware the majority intends to advance a one-week stopgap Continuing Resolution. It bears repeating that seven months into the fiscal year, this should not be necessary.
"Democrats continue to work toward a bipartisan Omnibus Appropriations Act that provides sufficient funding for critical priorities and rejects divisive poison-pill riders.
"By the time a vote occurs on this one-week stopgap, I hope we have made more progress on eliminating poison pill riders and advancing shared priorities."

President Trump's 2018 budget request is a betrayal of his promises, and would have a disastrous impact on job security; health; schools; safe, clean, and secure communities; and American leadership. It is a framework to shift more and more burdens onto the shoulders of working families.
House Appropriations Democratic staff today issued a report detailing the impact that some of these reckless proposed cuts would have on families and communities around the country.
Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY), Ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, today issued the following statement on President Trump's 2018 budget request:
"The lack of detail in the President's 2018 budget request would be embarrassing for an Administration with basic competence. But even hiding the details cannot obscure the fact that this is just another attempt to shift more economic burdens onto the shoulders of working families, by gutting services and investments on which they rely. If enacted into law, these cuts would have a disastrous impact on job security; health; safe, clean, and secure communities; and American leadership around the world."
"I will closely examine the President's request for supplemental appropriations for defense to determine whether the request would legitimately improve readiness and address areas of need.
Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY), Ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, today issued the following statement on the FY2017 Defense Appropriations bill:
"It is disappointing that it took until March - nearly halfway into the fiscal year - to bring forward a Defense Appropriations bill that could have and should have been finished more than five months ago.
"Nevertheless, I thank Democrats and Republicans in the House and Senate for their hard work and cooperation on this product, which keeps faith with caps on discretionary spending. Unlike the Defense Appropriations bill passed by the House last June, this bill does not break statutory spending limits, nor does it create a shortfall in funding mid-year, which would have affected salaries and mission support for men and women serving bravely in harm's way.

Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY), Ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, today slammed President Trump's intention to propose a 2018 budget that slashes services and investments critical to hardworking families, communities, and security:
"President Trump's budget request will reportedly propose devastating cuts to services and investments that are critical to working families, communities, and American leadership.
"Enacting appropriations law - as opposed to proposing nonbinding budget resolutions - will likely require Democratic votes, just as it did in the 114th Congress when the Republican majorities were larger in both chambers of Congress. Democrats will not help pass laws that shift more economic burdens onto hardworking American families.
