House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) issued this statement following a ruling by a three-judge panel for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit that President Trump’s billionaire ballroom project cannot continue without Congressional authorization.
Yesterday, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California issued a ruling ordering the Trump administration to release $65 million in withheld payments to legal service providers contracted to represent unaccompanied children in immigration proceedings in accordance with U.S. law. The court gave the Trump administration until 12:00pm PST (3:00pm EST) today to release the funds, which are reimbursements for services already rendered.
On July 31, the federal contract between the Department of Health and Human Services and the Acacia Center for Justice, the nonprofit provider of legal services to unaccompanied children in the care of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), lapsed after the Trump administration refused to extend the agreement unless the nonprofit agreed to hand over sensitive case information about the children.
