Recent Activity

July 27, 2018 Press Release
Through 12 Committee markups this year, House Appropriations Committee Democrats have offered nearly 150 amendments to stand up for our values and push back on President Trump and the Republicans’ backwards agenda. While Republicans have defeated many of these important amendments, House Democrats have succeeded in forcing important debates and putting Republicans on the record, laying down a marker for the battles that lie ahead.
June 8, 2018 Press Release
Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY), House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member, and Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH), House Legislative Branch Appropriations Subcommittee Ranking Member, today called out a senseless attempt by House Republicans, led by Congressman Mark Meadows (R-NC), to interfere with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.
June 7, 2018 Press Release

Mr. Chairman, I rise in opposition to the three-bill package that Republicans are bringing to the Floor today.

June 4, 2018 Press Release
This week, the House is expected to consider a three-bill "minibus" that includes the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies, Legislative Branch, and Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies appropriations bills.
May 8, 2018 Press Release
The bill before us contains $3.81 billion, excluding the $1.07 billion requested by the Senate. The agencies in the Leg Branch bill almost all receive what they requested after taking into account their funding in the FY2018 omnibus.
May 8, 2018 Press Release
The FY 2018 Omnibus was an important first step in digging many agencies in our legislative branch out of the hole caused by sequestration. This bill continues on that path with a $180 million increase, though it falls $24.9 million below the revised budget request.
May 1, 2018 Press Release
Chairman Yoder scheduled nine budget hearings for us in the space of three weeks. It was a little bit hectic but at the end of those hearings, we ended up with a bill that gives most of the Legislative Branch agencies most of what they asked for.
April 26, 2018 Press Release

Thank you, Chairman Yoder, Ranking Member Ryan, and Chairman Frelinghuysen, for your work on this bill. I want to start by congratulating our minority counsel Adam Berg on the birth of his second daughter, Leila.

June 29, 2017 Press Release
The Legislative Branch bill takes on added importance this year, given the tragic shooting at the Congressional baseball game. Our thoughts and prayers remain with Majority Whip Steve Scalise, and all those who were injured by this senseless violence. Members are rightfully concerned with ensuring our own safety, and that of our staffs and constituents.
June 29, 2017 Press Release
Even a bill worthy of our support, as this one is, should be part of a coherent budget strategy. It doesn’t appear that the majority has one. In fact, according to the reporting, Republicans are further away from agreement on a budget this week than they were last week.
