House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03); Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee Ranking Member Grace Meng (D-NY-06); and Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee Ranking Member Lauren Underwood (D-IL-14) sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Department of Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick expressing deep concern that recent freezing, delays, and cancellations of critical resources promised to communities across the country will impact our nation’s ability to prepare for and respond to major natural disasters.
During today’s House Appropriations Committee markup of the fiscal year 2026 Homeland Security funding bill, House Democrats highlighted how the bill raises costs for families recovering from natural disasters, weakens America’s national security, and fails to protect Americans from terrorism and violent extremists.
