House Appropriations Committee Republicans today released their 2027 Defense funding bill, which will be considered by the Defense subcommittee during a closed meeting tomorrow. The bill sets the Pentagon budget at more than $1 trillion – the largest in U.S. history and a $234 billion increase over 2026. The extravagant increase in Defense spending comes as Republicans propose steep cuts to domestic programs that support working people struggling with the cost-of-living crisis.

Today, the House passed a reconciliation bill to provide Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol with just under $70 billion with no strings attached, over 4 times their combined annual budgets. With the passage of this bill, Republicans have voted to provide DHS more than $260 billion in the first two years of the Trump administration.

Early this morning, the Senate advanced a reconciliation bill to provide Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol with just under $70 billion with no strings attached, over 4 times their combined annual budgets. If the bill passes, DHS will have received more than $260 billion from Congress in the first two years of the Trump administration. During today’s House Appropriations Subcommittee markup of the 2027 Homeland Security funding bill, House Democrats highlighted how the bill fails to include protections against abuse that Democrats and the American people have been demanding, as DHS agents have harassed, beaten, detained, and even killed law-abiding American citizens. It also cuts funding for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) by nearly $350 million, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) by more than $250 million.

Senate Republicans last night unveiled their spending bill for the Department of Homeland Security which includes more than $70 billion for the lawless Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and $1 billion for Trump’s ballroom. Today, after shutting down the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for 76 days and refusing to fund any agency under DHS without additional funding for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Border Patrol, House Republican leadership finally abandoned their senseless opposition to this common-sense solution and allowed a vote in the House on the unanimous Senate-passed bill, which closely mirrors legislation Ranking Member DeLauro introduced in February. The bill passed overwhelmingly.

Today, House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro called for the House to immediately vote on the Senate-passed Homeland Security funding bill and end the third Republican shutdown of the year.

Today, House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro issued the following statement on the release of Republicans’ partisan budget resolution that would give U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) $70 billion until 2035 on top of the $140 billion they received in the Big Beautiful Bill.
