DeLauro Statement on President Biden’s 2024 Budget

Press Release

House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) released the following statement on President Biden’s budget:

“The past two years, we passed government funding bills that help working Americans. These bills include investments that provide a lifeline for people who have not seen a pay raise in years, are struggling to pay their bills, and can hardly make it to the end of the month. Finally, big corporations are paying taxes. We passed these bills with the support of Democrats and Republicans in both the House and the Senate that lower drug and energy prices, create jobs, support our police, and increase security to make our nation and communities safer. President Biden’s 2024 budget allows for vital increases in investments in education, child care, and job training programs. With an increase in taxes on big corporations, President Biden is proposing a plan that rewards work, not wealth.

“Importantly, by once again proposing to separate VA Medical Care spending into its own category apart from other defense and non-defense discretionary spending, President Biden is requesting a necessary structure that better prioritizes and meets the needs of our veterans.

“I look forward to reviewing this budget and working with my colleagues in both chambers and on both sides of the aisle to pass final funding bills that continue to help hardworking people. As we head into budget hearings, I offer an important reminder: no Member, Senator, party, or chamber can do it alone.”
