During today’s House Appropriations subcommittee markup of the 2026 Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies funding bill, House Democrats highlighted how the bill increases costs for rural communities and cuts funding for programs that support farmers and help hardworking people feed their families.

WASHINGTON — House Appropriations Committee Republicans released the draft fiscal year 2026 Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies funding bill, which will be considered in subcommittee tomorrow. This bill increases costs for rural communities and cuts funding for programs that support farmers and help hardworking people feed their families.

House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (CT-03), Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration Ranking Member Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), and Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Ranking Member Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-25) released the following statement after receiving notification that next weeks’ hearings with U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins and Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins have been cancelled.

This new fact sheet includes district-level information on the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP).

Today, U.S. Rep. Sanford D. Bishop (GA-02), Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies and U.S. Rep. DeLauro (CT-03), Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Committee sent a letter demanding answers to the halting of all funds for the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) and provided a table showing the funds stolen from constituents by Member District.

After hours of pointless amendment debate to appease their most extreme members, House Republicans ran away from a final vote on their harmful fiscal year 2025 Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies funding bill. This defeat comes after their Legislative Branch funding bill failed on the House Floor and House Republican leadership scrapped plans to complete all 12 funding bills before August.
