Representatives Rosa DeLauro, Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Committee; Betty McCollum, Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense; Gregory W. Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee; Adam Smith, Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee; and Jim Himes, Ranking Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence sent a letter to top Trump administration officials set to brief Congress today.
Today, House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) requested unanimous consent to advance her bill to fund the law-abiding agencies under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS): the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), U.S. Coast Guard, Secret Service, and more, while negotiations continue on securing the reforms to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) that Americans are demanding. The request to consider the measure was blocked.
Today—as the Department of Energy (DOE) makes funding available in defiance of the fiscal year 2025 continuing resolution—Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D-OH-09), Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, and Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Vice Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development renewed their request that the Government Accountability Office (GAO) issue a legal decision on whether DOE’s allocation of these funds violated key appropriations laws by shifting hundreds of millions of dollars provided for research and development of clean energy sources to President Trump’s favored industries.
