"The Hyde amendment is a discriminatory policy. For more than 40 years, it has been routinely extended — every year as a legislative rider — but the time has come in this current moment to reckon with the norm, with the status quo, and view it through the lens of how it impacts communities of color."
“As I prepare to leave Congress, I know that the Appropriations Committee and the purse strings it controls are in good hands with Rosa. I look forward to watching her fight for Democratic values and American priorities in the years to come.”
“Today’s decision is an overdue but critical step in allowing our country to have an effective, secure and peaceful transition of power. It should not have required Congressional pressure to force the Trump administration to recognize the election results, but we are pleased the matter has been resolved."
Today, Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita M. Lowey, Oversight and Reform Committee Chairwoman Carolyn B. Maloney, Appropriations Committee’s Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee Chairman Mike Quigley, and Oversight and Reform Committee’s Government Operations Subcommittee Chairman Gerald E. Connolly sent a letter insisting that General Services Administration (GSA) Administrator Emily Murphy brief them tomorrow on her ongoing refusal to grant the Biden-Harris Transition Team access to critical services and facilities specified in the Presidential Transition Act of 1963 and millions of dollars in funding that Congress appropriated on October 1, 2020, for transition activities under the Act.
Today, House Appropriations Chairwoman Nita M. Lowey, House Budget Chairman John Yarmuth, and House Oversight and Reform Chairwoman Carolyn B. Maloney published funding documents obtained from the Trump Administration’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) that show the White House withheld expiring funds via an apportionment footnote – the same tactic used by President Trump to illegally withhold Ukraine security assistance. This year, OMB used an apportionment footnote to freeze accounts that fund the United States’ contributions to the World Health Organization (WHO).
