"The Administration is attempting to misuse the flexibility provided by Congress to fund construction projects that directly support the use of our armed forces in an emergency or a declared war. The President’s plan is not to make us safer; it is in fact, an attempt to fulfill his campaign promise to build an unnecessary wall that he said Mexico would pay for."
Mr. Secretary, you are currently leading an Agency that is facing some fairly significant changes that will fundamentally affect how veterans will receive care on a daily basis for years to come. First, we have to address the cost of care. With the passage of the Mission Act, VA will need a sustainable funding stream that continues to support core VA programs. I absolutely do not want to see Community Care funded at the expense of traditional VA Medical Services.
"A recent USA Today and Boston Globe investigation found disturbing cases of substandard care at VA nursing homes, and unsettling efforts to keep those assessments quiet. I will work closely with our veteran support groups to address these issues."
