"The fiscal year 2019 Energy and Water Development, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Legislative Branch bill is a bipartisan rejection of President Trump’s extreme budget cuts. It restores $8.1 billion in funding for programs that create jobs and strengthen our economy."
House Democrats stood firm in negotiations over the first minibus package, securing increased funding for important national priorities like clean energy and transformational science and better health care for our veterans. House Democrats also forced Republicans to abandon extreme anti-environment riders.
This week, the House is expected to consider the conference report on a three-bill "minibus" that includes the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies, Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies, and Legislative Branch appropriations bills.
“It is deeply disappointing that we have been unable to address this issue with a bipartisan, bicameral compromise. We will continue to fight for a responsible, long-term solution to protect domestic priorities and veterans’ health care.”
“Although it is not the bill Democrats would have written on our own, this minibus supports clean energy and transformational science programs, provides new resources to treat veterans suffering from the opioid epidemic, funds infrastructure improvements at VA facilities, and creates a new program to compensate House interns for their work. This minibus is also a victory for what it does not include: the extreme anti-environment riders included in the House-passed bills."
