Statement : Energy and Water Development, and Related Agencies

| Statements
My goals for the 2024 Energy and Water bill are to lower energy bills for American families, create jobs by growing and supporting a robust manufacturing sector, promote American energy independence, and out-compete China. But that’s not what this bill does.

Unfortunately, I must oppose this bill. Despite recently passing a bipartisan debt deal that included a path forward on spending levels, the majority party has chosen to turn their back on those promises and cater to the most extreme minority of their party. This bill has no chance to become law as it is written now. Americans don’t want this stand off; they want us to work together to do our jobs.

"The United States had 18 different billion-dollar weather disasters in 2022. And last year is building on an increasing trend. A recent report found that 90 percent of the counties in the United States suffered weather disasters in the last decade, impacting 93 percent of the country’s population – more than 300 million people. It is undeniable that we are witnessing growing weather events stemming from climate change occurring in real time before our very eyes."
