Statements

WASHINGTON - Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D-OH-09), Ranking Member of the Energy and Water Development, and Related Agencies Subcommittee, delivered the following remarks on the House Floor in support of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024.

- As Prepared For Delivery -

Thank you, Mr. Chair, I rise in support of the bill.

As this fiscal year 2024 Energy and Water bill moves toward passage, this new sign in northern Ohio signals a new responsible operator is poised to produce nuclear power at a standard of excellence.

With this Energy and Water bill's passage this week, new horizons for our region and nation will emerge with investment in modernized power production, with more diversification in the years ahead.

This bipartisan Energy and Water bill funds the U.S. Department of Energy, impacting every region of our nation. U.S. energy independence in perpetuity is our consistent, paramount, strategic goal. Each year our nation makes significant progress toward it.

This bill also assures our nation's nuclear power and security assets, including the nuclear Navy, are modern and ready both as a deterrent and to safeguard our nation's security. With Vladimir Putin's recent reckless threat about launching nuclear weapons in Europe and former President Donald Trump's appeasing reaction, this bill is needed as an affirmation of American will to protect and defend our people and assure our nation's security posture.

I urge my colleagues to join me in supporting this bipartisan bill.
