The compromise legislation includes some clear achievements for our caucus, including protection critical funding for Pell Grants, various elements of the new health care reform law, the Head Start program and Community Services Block Grants. At the same time the compromise that was reached between the House Republican Leadership, Senator Reid and the Administration included several elements that many of our Members would not have accepted.

We have asked a new generation of heroes to sacrifice on behalf of our country and we have an obligation to take care of them when they come home, Ranking Member Bishop said at the hearing.
