"We need to be doing even better for the communities that need us the most. That is really why we were all elected. As Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Secretary of Labor Francis Perkins, the first woman appointed to a presidential cabinet, said, and I quote, “I came to Washington to work for God, FDR, and the millions of forgotten, plain common workingmen,” I would add women. Working for the forgotten and for our workers should be the reason every single one of us is in Washington."

"MilCon is so much more than building new firing ranges and forts. It’s providing resilient, state-of-the-art facilities that can weather increasingly destructive storms. It’s reducing our carbon footprint and combatting climate change. It’s building child development centers and hospitals. It’s cleaning up the environmental messes our bases have left behind. It’s providing quality housing for our servicemembers and their families – ensuring military readiness."

"I commented during our hearing with the Secretary that the Department has many difficult missions and that the subcommittee is not always in agreement on the way forward on some of those missions. When it comes to the Coast Guard, I think it is fair to say that the subcommittee is largely in sync on supporting what you do and how you do it."
