Appropriations Committees Release 2024 Government Funding Legislation

March 3, 2024

Six-bill funding package helps with the cost of living, creates higher paying jobs, battles climate change, honors America's veterans, and protects women's rights.

House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) today joined Chairwoman Kay Granger (R-TX-12) and Senate Appropriations Committee Chair Patty Murray (D-WA) and Vice Chairman Susan Collins (R-ME) in releasing six fiscal year 2024 appropriations bills.

This package includes the following funding bills: Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies; Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies; Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies; Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies; Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies; and Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies.

"In a divided country, I am so pleased Democrats and Republicans in the House and Senate united and produced funding to make government work for people. These domestic investments keep our government open and help Americans with the high cost of living, create good paying jobs, protect women's rights, honor our commitments to our veterans, and confront the climate crisis," said Ranking Member DeLauro. "These funding bills — the product of bipartisan negotiations — help keep communities safe and healthy. We are protecting communities in need and moving our country forward. I am grateful that each of these bills rejects many of the extreme cuts and policies proposed by House Republicans and protects the great strides we made over the last two years to reverse the underinvestment in domestic programs that Americans depend on. I urge swift passage of this package and look forward to releasing the remaining 2024 funding bills."

The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024 funds the six bills at levels consistent with the bipartisan budget agreement and reaffirmed in the topline agreement struck by Leader Schumer and Speaker Johnson in January of this year.

These 2024 funding bills help working families by:

  • Boosting the economy, fighting inflation, and helping working families with the rising cost of living by creating and sustaining tens of thousands of middle class jobs, and by providing full funding for key lifelines such as food assistance and more affordable housing and homeownership.
  • Protecting the environment, fighting climate change, and ensuring America's energy independence with robust, transformative investments in deploying clean energy technologies in communities across the country, and providing funding for cutting-edge scientific and climate-related research.
  • Honors our veterans by ensuring they receive the care and benefits that they have earned and investing in veterans' health care, including targeted investments that advance women's health, mental health, and homelessness assistance.
  • Defend Americans' freedom by blocking attempts to limit women's access to reproductive health care, including abortion, and by increasing funding for gender-based violence prevention and prosecution programs.

The legislation is expected to be considered first in the House and then later this week by the Senate.

The remaining six appropriations bills for fiscal year 2024 are expected to be released in the coming days and be voted on ahead of their expiration on March 22.
