Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40), the Ranking Democrat on the House Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, today delivered the following opening statement at a Subcommittee hearing on the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) budget request for Fiscal Year 2016. The hearing's witness was TSA Acting Administrator Melvin Carraway.

"Administrator Carraway, welcome to your first appearance before the Subcommittee, and congratulations on your appointment as Acting Administrator. We are here to support your efforts to ensure the security of the traveling public, and we appreciate your hard work and commitment, and that of TSA personnel.

Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40), the Ranking Democrat on the House Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, today delivered the following opening statement at a Subcommittee hearing on the U.S. Secret Service's budget request for Fiscal Year 2016. The hearing's witness was U.S. Secret Service Director Joseph Clancy.

"Director Clancy, welcome to your first appearance before the Subcommittee, and congratulations on your appointment as Director. I hope you will find us to be tough but fair partners in your efforts to make the Secret Service the very best it can be.

"The agency has endured significant criticism over the last several months – indeed, over the last few years – and, unfortunately, much of it has been justified.

Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40), the Ranking Democrat on the House Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, spoke in the House of Representatives this morning about House Republicans' plan to fund the Department of Homeland Security for just three weeks with a new continuing resolution (CR), instead of passing a full-year DHS funding bill. The current CR to fund DHS is set to expire at midnight tonight.

Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40), Ranking Democrat on the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, and Congresswoman Nita Lowey (NY-17), Ranking Democrat on the full Appropriations Committee, today announced united support of all 188 voting Democrats for their bill H.R. 861, a funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security that does not include poison pill riders regarding the President's executive actions on immigration.
