"The energy future of our country depends on DOE’s vital investments to solve our toughest energy challenges. The President’s budget request harms America’s energy future, our competitiveness, our consumers, and our economy. The Trump budget also falls short in meeting our obligations to the communities that have sacrificed, and still bear the brunt of costs borne from winning World War II."

Our constituents see these cuts, thinking this is the final say, and imagine that the services and opportunities in our parks and our wildlife refuges, and the science we need to understand our world and anticipate natural hazards, will be severely curtailed. Tribal nations are also impacted by reductions in these bureaus."

This year, your proposal contains even deeper cuts and would greatly reduce public housing and end most community development grants. It would lead to more people struggling to find affordable housing, and more people falling into homelessness."

Secretary Wilson, General Goldfein, you have made it clear in your submitted testimony that you believe that the Air Force is too small and under-resourced to carry out its mission requirements under the National Defense Strategy with acceptable risk. Taking into account your concerns with readiness, capacity, and capability, the Subcommittee is prepared to review your fiscal year 2020 budget request within the scope of the resources that will be provided to the Department.
