"The very office that was created to protect whistleblowers was actively retaliating against them. What is deeply concerning is that since the creation of the office, OAWP has allowed corrupt leaders who have not been concerned with the responsibility or with complying with the mission of the office. Quite simply, the first two executive directors, Peter O’Rourke and his successor Kirk Nicholas, betrayed our veterans. I want to hear what steps are being taken to ensure that such an egregious breach of trust never happens again."
"American communities have been waiting far too long for the relief and recovery assistance they deserve. Any further delay by HUD to facilitate CDBG-DR funds to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands is not just unacceptable, it is unlawful."
"Rather than comply with the clear statutory language in bipartisan legislation that was signed into law by the President, HUD is withholding the required Federal Register notice for Puerto Rico. The other affected states had to wait 18 months, which was bad enough, but Puerto Rico is still waiting. As everyone knows, the island was utterly devastated by back-to-back hurricanes. Nearly 3,000 people lost their loves, and tens of thousands of homes were damaged. I’ve seen first-hand the challenges that must be overcome for a full recovery and the urgent need for this funding."
"CWD doesn’t just threaten our public health and the health of wildlife. It also puts a significant revenue stream at risk for local communities and an important source of funding for State wildlife management and conservation activities."
"I am very concerned about the increase in reported illnesses related to e-cigarettes and other vaping products, and now up to 26 deaths confirmed, including in my home state of New York. Additionally, the dramatic increase in use of these products among youth – which in fact represents an epidemic – is alarming. One in four kids is using e-cigarettes, and now a new generation of Americans is hooked on nicotine."
