Press Releases

July 9, 2013
This Congress has a 6% approval rating, the lowest in history. While many of my colleagues see cutting our important legislative branch agencies as a way to buoy the public's opinion of Congress, this is the wrong approach.
June 27, 2013
What a difference a year makes. Last year, Chairman Latham put forward a responsible bill that invested in our nation's infrastructure and took care of the housing needs of our most vulnerable citizens. The bill we consider today, however, is a stark contrast.
June 27, 2013
The true tragedy of this bill is that we have squandered an opportunity to meet the needs of millions of fellow Americans and of our housing and transportation infrastructure.
June 26, 2013
Unfortunately, the Subcommittee's allocation results in a bill that continues the dramatic underinvestment in our nation's waterways, infrastructure, energy efficiency, and scientists.
June 26, 2013
Unfortunately, the overall allocation is simply too small to adequately address the needs of our nation. I am afraid that the severe cuts to key programs will stifle American competitiveness.
June 18, 2013
This bill would slash funding for applied energy research and development, even as foreign competitors double down to develop twenty-first century technology and undermine our markets through illegal dumping and intellectual property poaching.
June 18, 2013
It is unacceptable to provide $700m less for energy efficiency, renewable energy, and Energy Delivery and Reliability than this same subcommittee recommended for these purposes just one year ago.
June 18, 2013
The overall allocation provided to this Committee by the Ryan Budget Resolution was unworkable from the start. It forced impossible choices and is, predictably, creating winners and losers among our twelve subcommittees.
June 18, 2013
The Chairman received an impossible allocation and the bill we are considering today does not adequately address the infrastructure and housing needs that were articulated during our hearing process.
June 13, 2013
Just yesterday, as the Appropriations Committee considered the Defense Appropriations Act, I warned that the majority's path would lead to severe cuts being borne by bills funding critical domestic priorities. Today as we consider a bill cut 6.2% from last year's level that prediction is proving accurate.
