Trump Makes History: The Latest-Ever Budget
WASHINGTON — House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) issued the following statement on President Trump failing to submit a full budget, making this year’s budget the latest ever sent to Congress:
“If President Trump released his full budget request today, it would be the latest in history. It is not shocking that an administration that has done nothing to lower the cost of living is still not ready to show their work and provide the American people with a comprehensive budget. Republicans in the House and the Senate are shockingly quiet despite spending the last two years blaming budget timing for their inability to fund the government on time.
“We already know from President Trump’s roadmap that instead of tackling the cost-of-living crisis, his 2026 budget request would make it worse. They are attacking education, housing, cancer research, and investments in the middle class to pay for tax cuts for billionaires. We need the government to fight for the middle class, the working class, and the vulnerable. The government envisioned by President Trump only serves billionaires and the biggest corporations.
“The Trump Administration has made it abundantly clear that, while they illegally freeze and withhold federal funds promised to the American people, they have no interest in demonstrating what activities they believe the government should actually provide funds for. Congress holds the power of the purse, not the President. We invite him to tell us what his priorities are, but if not, we are fully capable of funding the government without his input.”
