Trump Asks Congress for $67 Billion for His War of Choice While Failing to Address the Cost-of-Living Crisis
WASHINGTON – House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) issued the following statement on President Trump’s request for $67.1 billion in defense funding:
“President Trump started a war of choice in Iran without any coherent purpose or strategy. Not only is President Trump jeopardizing our security, but his actions have cost Americans an estimated $132 billion in higher prices for gas and energy while families are already struggling to pay their bills.
“The Pentagon received $1 trillion for 2026. It is outrageous the President thinks it is insufficient and is asking for an additional $67 billion in taxpayer dollars. The administration has yet to provide the committee with detailed answers to basic questions about what the hell we are doing in Iran.
“This supplemental funding request also includes $20 billion for other purposes, including programs that House Republicans are cutting in funding bills that have already passed out of the Appropriations Committee such as global health security that could address Ebola. As with every funding request that comes before this Committee we will give each provision its due consideration, but Democrats will not support tens of billions of dollars for Trump’s aimless war, which the House and Senate have both voted to end.”
