Trump and Unchecked Billionaire Musk Steal from American Farmers, Republicans Look the Other Way

*NEW* District-Level Information: Unlawful Funding Freeze Grinds Essential Assistance to Farmers and Rural Communities to a Halt

WASHINGTON — House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) and Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies Ranking Member Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) released a fact sheet detailing a few of the ways Trump and unchecked billionaire President Musk are stealing from American farmers. This new fact sheet includes district-level information on the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP).

“American farmers entered into contracts with the United States government. They purchased equipment and planned their businesses based on this promise. Trump and unchecked billionaire Musk have stolen these funds promised to rural communities in order to pay for their tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations,” said Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro. “Red district or blue district, this fact sheet proves that this funding is being stolen from farmers in every corner of the country, while House and Senate Republicans look the other way. They are doing nothing to stop Trump and President Musk while farmers are forced to close their farms, rural energy prices increase, and American grown food rots in warehouses. These unlawfully frozen funds must be released.”

“America’s farmers and producers grow the food we put on our tables, the fiber that clothe us, and the materials that build our country. EQIP and REAP are essential tools to keep them producing the highest quality, safest, most abundant, and affordable food and fiber in the world that helps our families and country thrive,” said Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture Ranking Member Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. “By ignoring the law and stealing these funds, the administration is breaking the deal with America’s farmers and producers. It is adding to the economic distress our farmers and producers already face, increasing their operating costs. That raises the cost of food and materials needed by American families and consumers everywhere.”

The fact sheet linked here follows DeLauro and Bishop’s letter to U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) SecretaryBrooke Rollins highlighting how the Trump Administration’s funding freeze is hurting farmers and crippling economic development in rural America. Courts intervened to stop the Trump Administration’s unlawful actions, but the President and his political appointees continue to flout the law, maintaining their illegal funding freeze.
