Republicans Rubberstamp Elon Musk’s Stealing of Taxpayer Money

Cuts Package Makes Americans Less Safe, Robs Communities of Access to Critical Public Broadcasting

Rescissions Fact SheetLetter from DeLauro and Frankel

WASHINGTON — House Republicans just rubberstamped Elon Musk’s stealing of American taxpayer money. The $9.4 billion rescissions package does nothing to address the cost-of-living crisis, hurts middle class and working families, and undermines national security. These cuts continue Elon Musk’s agenda to chaotically destroy the government and weaken the United States’ power in order to pay for tax breaks for billionaires.

This package was considered after months of the Trump administration already illegally freezing these funds.

“House Republicans just passed a bill to codify Elon Musk’s theft from rural and vulnerable American communities, children, and the global poor, for the sake of handing even more money to billionaires. This is after months of the Trump administration illegally freezing at least $425 billion across the government,” said Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03). “This bill shuts down rural television and radio stations—cutting off coverage of local news, eliminating emergency information like severe weather alerts, and jeopardizing access to PBS KIDS children’s programming, like Sesame Street and Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. It rips life-saving support away from hungry, displaced, and sick people in developing countries and conflict zones across the globe, ends programs that treat deadly diseases and prevent pandemics, and abandons the people of Ukraine while they resist Putin’s tyranny. It is time for House Republicans to join Democrats in fighting for the middle-class, the working-class, and the vulnerable, rather than just protecting the interests of billionaires and big corporations.”

“This package guts essential investments in international development and humanitarian programs—lifesaving tools that fight disease, prevent terrorism, support democracy, and open markets for American businesses,” said National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs Subcommittee Ranking Member Lois Frankel (D-FL-22). “If we fail to lead with soft power, we’ll end up paying in blood, bombs, and boots on the ground.”
