Republicans Finally Will Pass Bipartisan Senate Bill to Fund Homeland Security

April 1, 2026

Agreement closely mirrors bill introduced by Ranking Member DeLauro before shutdown began

WASHINGTON – Today, House Republican leadership reversed course and agreed to the bipartisan Homeland Security funding bill passed unanimously by the Senate. House Republicans previously rejected the agreement that they will now seek to pass, needlessly adding weeks to the shutdown.

“Many workers across the Department of Homeland Security have already missed multiple paychecks, and thanks to House Republican leadership’s pointless choice to extend this shutdown, they will likely miss another.

“This agreement closely mirrors the bill I introduced over a month ago, before the shutdown even began, that would fully fund TSA, FEMA, the Coast Guard, cybersecurity and the Secret Service, while setting funding for immigration enforcement aside.

“Democrats have been proposing this for weeks as a pathway to end the shutdown. I only wish Republicans had come to their senses sooner. Federal workers have suffered because of their failure to govern. The American people deserve better.

“Democrats will keep fighting to reign in ICE, and will continue to oppose new funding unless it is accompanied by reforms that most Americans support.”
