Republican Continuing Resolution Raises Housing Costs for Hardworking Americans
WASHINGTON — House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released a new fact sheet on how the Republican continuing resolution raises housing costs for hardworking Americans.
“The Republican continuing resolution that the House is expected to vote on today will hurt hardworking Americans,” said Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro. “This blank check to unelected billionaire Elon Musk fails to lower the cost of housing and instead cuts rent subsidies for low-income and working Americans by more than $700 million, leaving landlords to foot the bill for or evict more than 32,000 households including veterans, survivors of domestic violence, seniors, and families with disabilities. Instead of lowering the cost of living, Republicans are kicking people out of their homes.”
Republicans’ full-year continuing resolution:
- Puts tens of thousands of households on rental assistance at risk of eviction;
- Reduces support for homeless shelters and services;
- Cuts investment in affordable housing production; and
- Fails to reign in the chaos and uncertainty created by funding freezes, cancelled contracts, and Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) field office closures.
