President Trump Admits He Used Taxpayers’ Money for Political Ads
WASHINGTON – After President Trump personally directed that taxpayer funding be used for a series of political ads, he has reportedly reversed course. Instead, he is opting to pay for the spots with his donors’ money, through his political action committee (PAC). House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) issued the following statement on the president’s abrupt about-face:
“While I am glad it seems the American taxpayer will no longer be robbed to pay for presidential propaganda, their money should never have been stolen in the first place.
“By choosing to now fund these ads through his MAGA Inc. super PAC, President Trump is admitting a reality he previously denied: these are not public service announcements, they are political ads meant to boost his party’s chances in the upcoming elections.
“At minimum, the money this administration stole from the taxpayers to pay for these ads should be returned to the Treasury, and the president’s top aides who facilitated this theft must be held accountable.”
