DeLauro on Supreme Court Allowing Trump to Move Forward with Canceling Life-Saving Research

August 21, 2025

WASHINGTON — House Appropriations Committee and Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Subcommittee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) issued the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision to allow President Trump to cut off National Institutes of Health (NIH) research grants:

“President Trump is destroying lifesaving medical research. This is research that drives breakthroughs in finding cures and treatments for cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, ALS, diabetes, mental health conditions, maternal mortality and countless other diseases. These investments give hope to people suffering. Hope that keeps them fighting. Hope that one day a treatment or cure will be found. Now, with the help of the Supreme Court, much of that hope has been stripped away.

“This Supreme Court decision is a rubber stamp on President Trump’s destroying government. Cutting off this research will cost lives. Instead of standing with families and millions praying for cures, President Trump is siding with billionaires and the biggest corporations.”
