DeLauro Statement on Trump Termination of CDC Grants Targeting Four Democratic-led States
WASHINGTON – Today, House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) released the following statement after the House Appropriations Committee was notified, pursuant to the FY26 Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations bill, of a series of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) grants that the Trump administration intends to terminate:
"President Trump and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.’s partisan attacks are putting Americans at greater risk of disease. They are terminating grants specifically in four Democratic-led states: California, Colorado, Illinois, and Minnesota, including each of those state’s allocations for a nationwide preventive health program – a clear partisan attack.
“They have also terminated grant funding for HIV and STI prevention leaving populations in these states more vulnerable to infectious disease outbreaks. Contagious illnesses do not care who you voted for. They do not respect state borders. This is shameful, reckless, and irresponsible. I call on President Trump and Secretary Kennedy to reverse course immediately and restore this funding.”
