DeLauro Statement on Resignation of Interim FEMA Director, Continuation of Trump Administration Chaos

November 17, 2025

WASHINGTON – Today, House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released the following statement regarding the resignation of David Richardson, the acting director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), continuing the instability and uncertainty that has defined the Trump administration:

“This resignation is another example of the chaos that defines the Trump administration. It undermines the confidence families have that the federal government can effectively respond when it is needed most. And it comes while President Trump and his administration are still illegally withholding federal funding that our communities rely on to prepare for and recover from emergencies, further eroding Americans’ trust in this administration’s ability to provide aid when disaster strikes.

“American families deserve better than the endless turnover of partisan allies auditioning for the president. As the Trump administration looks for its fourth FEMA administrator in less than a year, I strongly encourage them to stop playing politics with emergency relief and find a replacement who is committed to carrying out the mission of FEMA on behalf of all the American people, not the political whims of President Trump, Director Vought, and Secretary Noem.”
