DeLauro Statement on Republican Political Theater
WASHINGTON – Today, House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) issued a statement following House Republicans’ cynical attempt to exploit the chaos caused by President Trump’s war with Iran to advance their partisan agenda.
“This was not a serious legislative effort – it was political theater. The vast majority of Americans want reforms to ICE and CBP, but Republicans refuse to act. I have a bill to fund every agency under the Department of Homeland Security except for ICE and CBP while negotiations on reforms to those agencies continue. Republican leadership is currently blocking that measure from receiving a vote. They do not want to pay federal employees because they would rather support the lawlessness of ICE and CBP. They are choosing to use the chaos created by President Trump’s war with Iran to subvert negotiations and score cheap political points. The stakes are too high to play politics. Republican leadership must stop blocking my bill and end this partisan charade.”
Ranking Member DeLauro’s bill provides full funding for the following agencies:
- Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), including the Disaster Relief Fund
- Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA)
- U.S. Coast Guard
- Transportation Security Administration (TSA)
- U.S. Secret Service
- Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC)
- Science & Technology Directorate (S&T)
- Office of Inspector General (OIG)
- Federal Protective Service
The bill does not include funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Customs and Border Protection, or the Office of the Secretary.
