DeLauro Statement on Full Missed Paycheck for Homeland Security Employees
WASHINGTON – Today, House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) issued a statement as workers across the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Coast Guard, and Secret Service missed a full paycheck.
House Republican leadership continues to block a bill from Ranking Member DeLauro which would fully fund these agencies, along with every component of Homeland Security (DHS) except Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
Yesterday, Senate Republicans also blocked a similar measure put forward by Senate Appropriations Vice Chair Patty Murray (D-WA).
“After receiving only partial paychecks at the beginning of this month, TSA agents, FEMA workers, cybersecurity experts, and other federal employees who work to keep us all safe missed a full paycheck today.
“Their paychecks did not go out because Republican leadership has chosen to withhold their pay in order to extract $28 billion more for ICE and CBP, on top of the $140 billion those agencies already have access to from the Big Beautiful Bill.
“I have put forward a bill to fully fund every part of Homeland Security except for ICE and CBP so DHS workers outside of those agencies do not have to suffer while Congress and the White House negotiate reforms that the vast majority of Americans agree are needed. House Republican leadership is currently blocking my bill from receiving a vote.
“Republicans’ all-or-nothing approach is not only harming these workers and their families, but making Americans even more vulnerable to threats created by President Trump’s decision to go to war with Iran.
“Republican leadership must immediately stop blocking my measure, bring it to the Floor for a vote, and allow these workers to be paid while negotiators continue working to address the very serious issues at ICE and CBP.”
