DeLauro Statement on Federal Judge Temporarily Blocking President Trump and Russ Vought’s Illegal Attempt to Fire Federal Workers
WASHINGTON — House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) released the following statement regarding U.S. District Court Judge Susan Illston’s ruling blocking President Trump and Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Russ Vought’s illegal attempt to fire federal workers:
“I am glad to see the Courts are doing their job, but these firings should never have happened in the first place. This is yet another corrupt attack by an administration that has been targeting American workers since the day they took office.
“President Trump and Russ Vought have been open about their desire to inflict trauma on the men and women who work day in and day out to provide the crucial public services millions of Americans rely on.
“There is no new legal authority to unilaterally decimate the federal workforce simply because of the Republican shutdown. This is not a ‘pressure tactic’ from the White House. It is an abuse of power that they are responsible for.
“Democrats remain ready and willing to strike a deal to fund the government and prevent health care costs from skyrocketing for more than 20 million Americans. Whether President Trump and Republicans want to work with us to make that happen, or continue abusing their power to hurt American workers, is up to them.”
