DeLauro on Elon Musk and President Trump’s Year-Long Funding Bill
WASHINGTON — House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released the following statement on passage of Republicans’ full-year continuing resolution:
“The continuing resolution that directs funding for the year designed by Elon Musk and President Trump steals from the middle class, seniors, veterans, working people, small businesses, and farmers to pay for tax breaks for billionaires. United House Democrats under Leader Hakeem Jeffries gave the Senate the momentum to stop this dangerous bill, but the Senate Minority Leader failed to see how dangerous it was to give President Trump a victory at this historic moment.
“The President should be focused like a laser on the cost of living. Instead, he has created this unprecedented year-long funding law that cuts help for veterans facing exposure to toxic substances, allows Social Security offices to close, fails to include the funds necessary for natural disasters, and throws people out of their homes.
“The Senate passed the bill, even though the OMB Director Russ Vought and President Trump said this law will enable them to continue unlawfully impounding funds appropriated by Congress. No wonder President Trump and Judiciary Chairman Jordan thanked the Democratic Senate leaders.
“Fortunately, the majority of the country believed the President and Republicans are responsible for any shutdown and society is on our side in this battle for America’s future. We have had important victories in the courts, and House Democrats will take the lead at this critical time for the country.”
