DeLauro Applauds Ruling to Temporarily Halt Federal Funding Freeze

January 31, 2025

WASHINGTON — House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro released the following statement after the U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island halted the implementation of an unlawful Trump administration policy to freeze federal agency grants, loans, and other financial assistance programs:

“President Trump and his Office of Management and Budget have acted far beyond their constitutional authority and have undermined the rule of law since his first day back in office, and I applaud the District Court of Rhode Island’s ruling, which will halt some of these actions.

“But this fight is far from over. The Court’s order is only temporary, and the Trump Administration’s dedication to dismantling the programs and services that help the American people for the sake of looting the government and handing tax breaks to billionaires is unending. Their dangerous and unconstitutional power grab would hurt families who depend on federal funding for afterschool programs and childcare, it would raise energy costs for families trying to keep their homes warm, and it would hurt vulnerable and lower income Americans who depend on Medicaid to see their doctor. And their total destruction of our capacity to deliver foreign aid will do nothing but undermine the United States’ international standing, to the direct benefit of the Chinese Communist Party. We must stay vigilant and stay the course – and the Senate must reject the nomination of the architect of this mayhem, Russ Vought, for Director of the Office of Management and Budget.

“I am proud to stand both, with my home State of Connecticut who is party to this lawsuit, and with all American taxpayers, whose funds have been stolen by the President’s unlawful actions.”
