Ranking Member Espaillat Statement at the Fiscal Year 2024 Government Accountability Office Budget Request Hearing

Congressman Adriano Espaillat (D-NY), Ranking Member of the Legislative Branch Appropriations Subcommittee, delivered the following remarks at the Subcommittee's hearing on the fiscal year 2024 budget request for the Government Accountability Office:

Mr. Dodaro, thank you for being here today. 

The Government Accountability Office has a tremendous responsibility to provide independent oversight of U.S. Government programs and activities and nonpartisan support to Congress. 

This subcommittee has a great appreciation for GAO’s work. 

I would like to commend GAO for its work to reinforce Congress’ constitutional power of the purse and for dedicating the resources necessary to support this committee. 

I would also like to commend GAO for its commitment to recruiting and retaining a diverse staff and its track record of earning a top spot among the Best Employers for Veterans and the Best Places to Work overall.

As Ranking Member, I am committed to ensuring that GAO has the resources it needs to build on this excellent record, to provide timely expert assistance to Congress, and to meet the challenges of its vast oversight mission.
