Statement

Congressman Adriano Espaillat (D-NY), Ranking Member of the Legislative Branch Appropriations Subcommittee, delivered the following remarks at the Subcommittee's hearing on the fiscal year 2024 budget request for the Architect of the Capitol:

**As prepared for delivery**

Thank you, Chairman Amodei. Good afternoon, Everyone.

Thank you, Ms. Rexroat, for being here today. This is your first time appearing before this Subcommittee. Welcome.

Congratulations to the entire AOC team for your hard work and contributions during the 118th Congressional transition.

The AOC has requested $1.1 billion for fiscal year 2024. This request includes key security upgrades and addresses critical infrastructure needs across the Capitol Complex. Investing in AOC projects keeps the Capitol Complex safe for Members of Congress, staff, and its daily visitors from around the globe.

The questions I have for you today will touch on the potential impacts on your agency if faced with budget cuts, cybersecurity plans, safety concerns, and the AOC’s long-term strategic plan.

I look forward to hearing your testimony.

I yield back.

118th Congress
