Ranking Member Cartwright Floor Remarks on the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024
WASHINGTON - Congressman Matt Cartwright (D-PA-08), Ranking Member of the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Subcommittee, delivered the following remarks on the House Floor in support of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024:
- As Prepared For Delivery -
I rise in strong support of this bill. The Commerce-Justice-Science division of this bill preserves solid funding for an array of important public investments. For example, the Manufacturing Extension Partnership program is level-funded at $175 million, and the bill provides strong and continued level funding for NOAA Climate Research and NASA Earth Science.
We forced the removal of nearly 70 bad policy riders, covering environmental policy, immigration, women's health, culture war issues, and more, including the removal of more than a dozen harmful gun riders.
The bill provides a strong $13 million increase for programs under the Violence Against Women Act, as well as continued level funding for grants under the Community Violence Intervention and Prevention program, the Stop School Violence Act, and Victims of Child Abuse Act grants.
The bill provides a solid increase of $8 million for the DOJ Antitrust Division, and I'm proud that we also secured continued level funding for the Legal Services Corporation.
In summary, the CJS appropriations agreement represents a solid effort to preserve these priorities, and I urge Members to support it.
