Statement

Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40), Chair of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, delivered the following remarks at the Subcommittee's hearing on securing federal networks and state election systems:

I welcome everyone to the third Department of Homeland Security subcommittee hearing of the 116th Congress; and a special welcome to our witness today, Director Krebs of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

I’ll make my opening statement brief this afternoon to maximize time for questions.

Director Krebs, congratulations on being named the first director of the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.  We have spoken about some of the challenges you and CISA face, and I want to reaffirm my commitment to helping you address those challenges.

As you know, election security has been a major focus of this subcommittee, and for the second year in a row, we have supported significant increases to your budget to address these vulnerabilities to ensure that our election system is secure and reliable.

I would now like to turn to the distinguished gentleman from Tennessee, Ranking Member Fleischmann, for his opening remarks.
