Republican Energy and Water Funding Bill Raises Costs, Harms Energy Reliability and Security
**NEW RESOURCE** State- and District-level information on Republican funding cuts compiled by Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro
WASHINGTON – Today, House Appropriations Committee Ranking Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) released a detailed breakdown of some of the devastating funding cuts proposed in House Republicans’ fiscal year 2027 Energy and Water Development funding bill.
“Working families are struggling each and every day to afford basic necessities. Instead of doing anything to resolve this crisis, House Republicans and the Trump administration are gutting resources that support our communities at home, while increasing funding by hundreds of billions of dollars to pay for wars of choice abroad,” said Ranking Member DeLauro. “This data reveals the depth of cuts that House Republicans are proposing in the Energy and Water bill. Cuts that will devastate communities represented by Democrats and Republicans alike. These cuts will make utilities more expensive, prolong exposure to hazardous waste, and weaken American competitiveness in the global clean energy economy. It is a recipe for American failure.”
The cuts impact red and blue districts across both rural and urban communities. For example, of the $200 million in proposed cuts to the Army Corps of Engineers’ program to clean up hazardous waste leftover from America’s atomic weapons program, more than $140 million is cut from Republican-held districts. This includes:
- A $100 million cut to Rep. Glenn Thompson’s district (PA-15)
- A $34 million cut to Rep. Jeff Van Drew’s district (NJ-02)
- A $7.4 million cut to Rep. Claudia Tenney’s district (NY-24)
The Republican cuts will impact every single state, with more than $2 billion in cuts to the Department of Energy’s programs (excluding the National Nuclear Security Administration). The top five largest state cuts are:
- Colorado: $435,532,204
- Washington:$401,448,317
- South Carolina:$209,617,779
- New Mexico:$121,273,436
- Tennessee: $120,397,076
