Press Release

WASHINGTON — House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita M. Lowey (D-NY-17) today issued the following statement after the Senate passed bipartisan legislation to raise unworkable budget caps and suspend the debt ceiling:

“I am pleased this bipartisan agreement rejects the President’s reckless budget proposal, increases funding for critical domestic priorities, and removes the threat of sequestration once and for all. More reasonable spending levels will enable us to invest For the People and better meet the needs of hardworking families.

“The House has already passed ten of its appropriations bills to fund the government for fiscal year 2020. With a bipartisan spending framework now in place, the Senate must quickly get to work so that we can conference appropriations bills when Congress returns in September. We owe it to the American people to responsibly fund the government and avoid another shutdown.”

The bipartisan budget agreement, which passed the House as H.R. 3877 on July 25, now heads to the President’s desk for signature into law.
