Lowey Statement on 2014 Budget Request

Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY), Ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, today issued the following statement regarding President Obama's Fiscal Year 2014 budget request:

"In contrast to the budget resolution passed by the House majority, President Obama's budget request charts a course toward job creation, economic growth, and a stronger middle class. It would protect and expand critical investments in our future – like early childhood education, roads and bridges, medical research, energy security, and public safety – without which American families and our economic future would suffer.

"The dangerous and arbitrary across-the-board cuts that went into effect in March are already resulting in job and income loss for American families. Until Congress reverses this misguided policy, they will continue to hurt schools and health care providers, diminish public safety and national security, and handicap critical investments in scientific and medical research. I share President Obama's commitment to replacing sequestration, a critical step for American families and our economic recovery.

"I look forward to working through regular order with Chairman Rogers and my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to protect critical services and investments, facilitate job creation and economic growth, and reduce the long-term debt."
