Legislation extends government funding through December 11

WASHINGTON — House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita M. Lowey (D-NY) today filed H.R. 8337, the Continuing Appropriations Act, 2021 and Other Extensions Act, reflecting bipartisan agreement on an extension of government funding through December 11. The legislation is a modified version of H.R. 8319, which Chairwoman Lowey filed yesterday.

In addition to provisions previously announced, H.R. 8337 adds nearly $8 billion in vital needed nutrition assistance for the American people. It includes an extension and expansion of the Pandemic EBT program, which provides resources to families with children who otherwise would have received free or reduced-price meals at school. The new bill also extends nutrition waivers included in the Families First Coronavirus Response Act.

In addition, the bill now allows the Commodity Credit Corporation to be replenished for net realized losses but prohibits any payments to fossil fuel refiners and importers. This language blocks the Trump administration’s proposed bailouts for fossil fuel companies that defied biofuel blending standards.
