Press Release

House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) released a statement following Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton’s announcement that she will not seek reelection:

“I am saddened to learn that my colleague, Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton, will not seek another term in the House of Representatives. In addition to being an outstanding legislator and compassionate colleague, she has shown incredible grace, resilience, and fortitude in the wake of her diagnosis. My heart breaks that she will not be returning next Congress.

“It has been a tremendous honor to serve alongside Jennifer on the House Appropriations Committee. While on the Appropriations Committee, she delivered over $31 million for key projects in her district and worked tirelessly to boost funding for childhood cancer research, enhance mental health resources for U.S. Capitol Police, and aid Uyghurs fleeing persecution in China. She is an outstanding lawmaker who has been steadfastly focused on serving her constituents in Virginia. Her absence from the House of Representatives next Congress will be a loss for her constituents, the institution, and all of us who serve with her.

“Since her time serving in the Virginia Senate, Jennifer has developed a reputation of impeccable credibility and a strong willingness to reach across the aisle, seek compromise, and pass meaningful legislation that grows the middle class and improves the lives of the American people.

“Jennifer is a courageous leader who will be deeply missed in the halls of Congress. Our prayers are with her and her family as she faces this next chapter, and I look forward to working closely with her on the Appropriations Committee for the balance of this Congress.”
