Press Release

House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) released the following statement on the forthcoming Capitol security supplemental:

“My heart breaks over the loss of U. S. Capitol Police Officer William F. Evans, who died heroically defending the U.S. Capitol. Last Friday’s tragic events underscore the need for a security supplemental that will ensure the safety of Members, staff, Capitol workers, and the Capitol Police.

“Since January 6, the Appropriations Committee has reviewed the security failures ourselves while closely monitoring the progress of the Task Force 1-6 led by Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré. We have come away with a clear conclusion: we must improve intelligence collection and review, bolster the capacity and training of the Capitol Police, and make physical security improvements to the Capitol Complex.

“The Appropriations Committee is working to address these critical areas. When Congress returns to Washington, we will act to ensure the safety of the Capitol and everyone who works there.”
