DeLauro Demands Explanation on Trump’s Firing of FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton
Trump Fires Another Veteran
WASHINGTON — House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) issued the following statement in response to reports that the Trump administration has fired Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Acting Administrator Cameron Hamilton the day after he appeared before the House Appropriations Committee:
“FEMA Acting Administrator Cameron Hamilton is a dedicated public servant and a former Navy SEAL. At yesterday’s FEMA oversight hearing, I asked him a basic question about FEMA’s importance and the Trump Administration’s stated goal to eliminate this critical agency. Acting Administrator Hamilton answered with clarity and honesty—and now he has been fired.
“President Trump fires anyone who is not blindly loyal to him. Acting Administrator Hamilton has proven his dedication to serving the American people. The Trump administration must explain why he has been removed from this position. Integrity and morality should not cost you your job, and if it does, it says more about your employer than it does you.
“Yesterday, FBI Director Patel also contradicted the Trump Administration by committing to follow a law Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought is breaking and by honestly stating that the amount in President Trump’s budget was far less than what the FBI actually needs to keep Americans safe.”
