DeLauro Congratulates Cole on Becoming the Next Appropriations Committee Chairman

April 10, 2024
Press Release

WASHINGTON – Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Committee Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) today released the following statement congratulating Congressman Tom Cole (R-OK-04) on the Republican Conference officially naming him Chairman:

“I congratulate Congressman Tom Cole on his new role as Chairman of the Appropriations Committee. It was an honor to lead the Labor-HHS-Education subcommittee with him. During the eight years that Congressman Cole and I served together as Chair and Ranking Member of the subcommittee, we increased funding for biomedical research at the National Institutes of Health by 58 percent. This historic increase funded lifesaving research on diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s, and dementia. Congressman Cole helped restore regular order in the subcommittee, giving Members on both sides of the aisle a chance to offer amendments and have their voices heard on the largest nondefense funding bill.

“Our relationship is built on a strong foundation of mutual respect and a love of burnt bacon. In everything he does, Congressman Cole demonstrates profound integrity. He understands why he serves in the House of Representatives and is here to make sure the institution works on behalf of the American people. I look forward to these principles guiding the Appropriations Committee as we get to work on the 2025 process.”
