Press Release

WASHINGTON – Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Committee Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) today released the following statement to honor and thank Chairwoman Kay Granger for her service:

“Chairwoman Kay Granger is a trailblazer who worked tirelessly for the American people as a leader of the House Appropriations Committee. The first Republican woman to ever lead the Committee, she was not handed this position. Like every leadership position she has held before this, including her role as the first woman to serve as mayor of Fort Worth, Texas, she fought hard and proved herself every step of the way.

“In her 25 years on the Committee, Chairwoman Granger worked her way through the ranks, serving on eight of the twelve subcommittees. She is an expert legislator, a tough negotiator, and consistently delivers for her constituents. She served as Chairwoman of the Defense and State and Foreign Operations Subcommittees before taking on the role as Chairwoman of the full committee, proving that she has mastered issues historically dominated by men and has made herself a trusted voice in national security, homeland security, and ensuring America is a leader on the global stage.

“It has been an honor to serve with Chairwoman Granger. I am going to miss having her as Chairwoman and look forward to continuing to work with her as Chairwoman Emerita.”
