DeLauro, Clyburn, McCollum Celebrate Passage of Funding Package
WASHINGTON – Today, House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro, House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense Ranking Member Betty McCollum, and House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Ranking Member James E. Clyburn, celebrated the passage of the three-bill appropriations package covering their jurisdictions.
“These three bills represent a strong, bipartisan, bicameral agreement that rejects the Trump Administration’s efforts to eviscerate public services, and reasserts Congress’s power of the purse,” said Ranking Member DeLauro. “This package rejects efforts to dismantle the Department of Education, shores up our support for European security, and increases funding for medical research and early childhood education. It invests in affordable housing – providing relief to families feeling the squeeze from the cost-of-living crisis. And it supports our transportation infrastructure; making our skies safer, our streets more resilient, and our passenger rail systems more efficient. Through this package, we will prevent more than four million American households from being evicted, hire 2,500 more air traffic controllers, and provide a pay raise for the brave men and women who serve our country in uniform. This is a strong package, and I applaud its passage out of the House.”
“As Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, I am pleased that Republican leadership has finally allowed the Subcommittee to negotiate a bipartisan Fiscal Year 2026 Defense Appropriations Act that can win broad support in the House,” said Congresswoman McCollum. “Like previous years, months of delays could have been saved if Republicans had not included outrageous partisan riders in the House version of this bill. I’m pleased that all these partisan provisions were removed in the negotiation process. This compromise legislation provides our service members with the training and equipment necessary to complete their missions and come home safely. The bill also prioritizes our military families by including a 3.8 percent pay increase. Importantly, the bill also includes $1.27 billion for the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program, which will begin to alleviate some of the damage done to medical research by severe cuts in the previous fiscal year’s Continuing Resolution. I am also pleased that the bill includes robust funding for environmental remediation efforts, including research on PFAS destruction technology.”
"I strongly support this bipartisan legislation that will make critical investments in housing and transportation across America," said Congressman James E. Clyburn. "The Transportation and Housing division of this bill includes $113 billion in discretionary spending. The bill reflects a renewed commitment to addressing the cost-of-living crisis and improving the safety of our transportation systems. It advances investments in our housing and transportation infrastructure, while increasing safety and housing security. This bill will provide greater economic certainty to communities across the country and make the day-to-day lives of everyday people a little more affordable."
