Press Release

House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) released the following statement on the retirement of Chairwoman Kay Granger (R-TX-12):

“It has been my privilege to lead the House Appropriations Committee alongside Chairwoman Kay Granger. Congresswoman Granger and I have mutual respect and a long history of bipartisan success that have been some of the highlights of my career. Congresswoman Granger is a strong, dedicated public servant, who has been a trailblazer for women across local, state, and federal government. The Committee and the entire Congress will miss her tenacity and unwavering dedication to making life better for all Americans.

“Chairwoman Granger has made history at every step of her career. She was the first female Mayor of Fort Worth and the first Republican woman to represent Texas in the House of Representatives. She has been a leading voice on the House Appropriations Committee for more than two decades, a steadfast leader in foreign affairs and defense policy, and laser-focused on making our nation more secure. She served as the Chairwoman of the State Foreign Operations Subcommittee and was the first woman to sit on and serve as chair of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee. Congresswoman Granger was the first Republican woman to lead the Appropriations Committee, and with our counterparts Senators Patty Murray and Susan Collins, was part of the first Committee led on all four corners by women.

“I look forward to working closely with Chairwoman Granger for the rest of the 118th Congress as we carry out our appropriations work. I wish her and her family all the best as she begins a new chapter.”
